I have been thinking about passions and focusing on the passionate people who are around me. I have a thought or two about it. You don’t have to agree with me, but I hope it gives you something to think about. I was thinking about what constitutes a person who is truly passionate vs. someone who comes off as “passionate”.
My theory is that the someone who is truly a passionate person is never going to want you to believe in the same thing they do or are passionate about. Ironic, right? But think about it, do you feel more inspired when people are doing something and it looks effortless or when someone is doing it intentionally to convince you to do or believe something? For me, it’s the former. When someone is doing something or talking about something that they are passionate about, their believes are unaffected by what you think about them or their passion or what they are doing. They don’t care if you don’t believe in what they are telling you at the end of the conversation because they will continue to believe in it regardless. It is the isolation of their passion from the judgements of other people and I admire that. It’s refreshing for me to see those people and learn from them when they are talking about their thing and it makes me what to learn about it too.
On the other hand, when someone is intentionally telling you something in a way where they want you to have the same opinion or thought by the time you end the conversation, that is a fake passion to me. That is because it is based on what others think and if I end up believing in something completely different despite their “passion”, they might even discard me from their life altogether. Think about it. All the people who ever made a difference, in a pleasant or even unpleasant way, they could only do it because they went for what they believed in no matter what others said about it, be it related to any kind of human rights, education or gaining power or countries or people. It’s pretty mind blowing when you put it in perspective like that. If those people did those things in order to convince people and worry about the judgements of other people, we might not be in the world we are living in right now. It probably would have looked very different.
I am not saying that one way is right and other is wrong, but it’s definitely something to think about. Obviously, it’s only my own theory and you don’t have to agree with me one bit. Every person have their own thought processes and I believe and hope that you have enough reasoning to believe in what you believe in. I hope you find your own true passion in your own way, whatever that it, because let me tell you, it’s fun and once you find it, it’s all worth it. It doesn’t even have to be just one thing, it could be multiple. The world is your oasis and you can never know enough.
I will leave you with this question: Are you ready to be discovered by your true passion(s)?
